Remains of deceased individual in Nova Scotia confirmed as missing Salt Spring Island man

Nova Scotia RCMP have confirmed that the remains of a man had been identified as a sailor from Salt Spring Island who had gone missing in June. 

Earlier this month, on July 10th, a boat with two deceased individuals aboard was discovered on the shores of Sable Island National Park in Nova Scotia.

Initial reports indicated the two bodies might belong to a couple from Salt Spring Island who had been sailing in the area.

Now, Nova Scotia RCMP have identified one of the bodies as that of the 70-year-old man who had set sail on the Theros—the same ship the bodies were discovered on. 

Police say they are still working to identify the remains of the other individual aboard the Theros. It is believed that the body belongs to the man’s 54-year-old partner he had been travelling with. 

The couple have been identified as Sarah Packwood and Brett Clibbery, who were reported missing on June 18th after sailing out of Halifax Harbour on June 11th, en route to the Azores. 

According to Nova Scotia RCMP, at this time, the deaths are not believed to be suspicious. 

Police continue to investigate in an effort to determine what may have occurred at sea to cause their deaths. 

An update will be issued if the investigation uncover any criminality.
