BC’s gang unit has confirmed that an illegal casino operating in a former medical building in Saanich has been shut down.
According to the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit BC (CFSEU-BC), fourteen people were arrested after a raid on what the unit describes as an “illegal gaming house” in Saanich on Wednesday.
In an email statement to Victoria Buzz, CFSEU-BC said that with the assistance of Saanich Police, they were on Vancouver Island executing a search warrant at a Cook Street address in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged illegal gaming house.
“At this time, as the investigation is ongoing, we have no additional information to share. If and when charges are laid or there is an update, we will likely share that via a media release,” said Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton of the CFSEU-BC.
The vacant building, which used to be the Cook and Quadra Medical Clinic building, was found to have been essentially converted into a “casino”.
Photos from the scene show the area blocked off with police tape and at one point, vehicles were being towed from the area.
Victoria Buzz has reached out to Saanich Police for more information but were deferred back to CFSEU-BC.
More to come.
