The Victoria Downtown Residents Association invites everyone to join them for a free pedal-powered hip hop performance this week!
Every year, they transform an underused greenspace into an open-air performance venue, and for their third year, they’ll be hosting the event on Pandora Green—a small public park along Pandora Avenue, just east of Vancouver Street!
This will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 8th, featuring headliner Kwakwa̲ka̲’wakw and Nuu-Cha-Nulth rapper Pindian.
Now reaching nearly three years of sobriety, Pindian has found immense healing through lyricism and in the genre of hip hop, which they view as an innovative and creative continuation of their nation’s tradition of storytelling.
This special annual event will kick off with a Lekwungen Welcome by TEALIYE/Brianna Bear from Songhees Nation, and will also include a performance by members of SOLID Outreach
Society’s music support group and a poetry reading.
All of these performances will be made possible with a bicycle-powered sound system, which audience members will be invited to take part in!
Be a part of the magic of outdoor performance and community by taking turns riding the stationary generator bikes during the concert.
When you’re not pedaling and dancing your heart out, be sure to have a blanket and/or lawn chair to stay cozy!
Invite your friends and bring along a picnic too.
