Day two of the ‘Reverb’ Phillips Backyard Music Festival saw a miraculous number of people wearing sweat suits in August, as per the day’s theme.
Additionally, the lineup for the day was absolutely unreal, with one of the best lyricists in rap headlining the show and a myriad of openers who were no slouches themselves.
The day kicked off with local Victorian, TK The Artist on the main stage. TK sat behind the drum kit and bright with him a talented band, complete with a nice sultry saxophone player.
TK and his band were all smiles through the show and everyone in attendance could tell they were on cloud nine through the entire show.
Next up was Jungle Bobby, one of the most energetic and fun shows ever to have taken place in the backyard.
Bobby had the crowd chanting about their love for one another and insisting to newcomers that “This is not a cult.”
He was joined by a pair of backup dancers who immediately had the crowd moving and shaking their stuff. He was also joined by his best friend Dan who was his DJ through the set.
Hometown legends Astrocolor were next up and kept the good time going with some fun dancey music and a tickle trunk full of tambourines.
They played songs both old and new, with a fun 80s dance party vibe. They had saxophone, sequins galore, cowbell and they showed all in attendance exactly why they are pillars of the music scene here in Victoria.
Cautious Clay took the stage next, and although some in attendance may not have known who he was prior to the festival, he had one of the best performances of the day and his music will surely be appearing on many Victorians’ playlists after this weekend.
This talented singer also plays flute, saxophone and guitar and made sure that everyone knows it. Keep an eye on Cautious Clay, as he is surely going to be blowing up soon.
Last up, the one and only Earl Sweatshirt was on stage. His brand of avante-garde, abstract hip-hop is how he made a name for himself.
Now considered to be one of the best rap lyricists of all time, Earl Sweatshirt put on a show no one will soon forget.
