As back-to-school season looms over parents all over Vancouver Island, one organization seeks to help Ukrainian refugees with school supplies for their children.
Specifically, Help Ukraine Vancouver Island Society (HUVI) hopes to distribute backpacks, notebooks, pencils and other necessary items to Ukrainian refugee families in order to ensure all children, regardless of background, have the opportunity to thrive academically.
“As the back-to-school season approaches, we are organizing a campaign to provide essential school supplies to Ukrainian children in need,” said Karmen McNamara, Founder of HUVI.
“Every contribution, big or small, will directly benefit local Ukrainian refugee children and help them start their school year on the right foot. We would be delighted to recognize your support through our campaign materials and social media channels.”
HUVI says they would appreciate the following:
- Monetary donations:
- These allow HUVI to purchase school supplies in bulk and meet the needs of all students. They accept credit cards, e-transfers and cheques. Click here to find out how to donate
- In-Kind Donations:

“Your support would not only make a significant difference in the lives of these kids but also highlight your commitment to making a positive impact in our community,” said McNamara.
As of May, there are 1,655 Ukrainian newcomers who have registered with HUVI—many of whom are children in need of back-to-school support.
