Follow along as community members cycle for a cause!
Hosted by Cops for Cancer, Tour de Rock, is an exciting annual event where police agencies, emergency service and media personnel cycle for a whopping 14 days across Vancouver Island, totalling around 1,200 kilometres!
Tour de Rock will take place from September 21st to October 4th, and as of this publication, they’ve raised just over $124,500 out of their $1 million goal.
The funds being raised go towards childhood cancer research and support services at the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), including programs like Camp Goodtimes.
If you’re unfamiliar, Camp Goodtimes gives sick kids the opportunity to enjoy doing what kids do best: have worry-free fun outdoors and make new pals, but in a medically-supervised and supportive environment.
Since Cops for Cancer’s inception in 1997 and Tour de Rock’s first ride, it has flourished with the help of dedicated volunteers and community partners across Vancouver Island and Canada—raising over $54 million.
The research that this money has funded has led to new and more effective treatments for childhood cancers and an increase in the number of children who survive into adulthood.
As Cops for Cancer grows, they remain dedicated to the support of children and families living with and beyond cancer, and are always appreciative of those willing to join them in their fight.
“To take on cancer, it takes every one of us. It takes a society,” their website reads.
If you wish to donate to the CCS through Cops for Cancer, you can do so here.
