The blaze near Nanaimo dubbed the ‘White Rapids’ wildfire has been tamed and updated to ‘under control’ status.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) discovered the fire on Friday, August 9th, around four kilometres west of the Trans-Canada Highway.
The White Rapids wildfire was situated just along the banks of the Nanaimo River and grew to be around 2.3 hectares in size before being brought under control.
Initially, it was only 0.009 hectares, but grew rapidly in the initial hours after being ignited.

Currently, the BCWS believes this wildfire was caused by human activity.
At its height, this blaze had a total of 12 BCWS firefighters assigned to it, along with one helicopter for bucketing and seven operational staff.
The most recent update from the BCWS says that crews remain on scene to ensure the wildfire does not grow any more.
This blaze is one of three wildfires on Vancouver Island, all of which have been brought under control thanks to the efforts of the BCWS and local fire departments.
As of this publication, there are 416 wildfires active in British Columbia.
