The prestigious Michelin Guide has created a new rating system for hotels that go above and beyond the expected levels of service from an accommodation provider—the Michelin Key.
The Michelin Key is given to the most exceptional hotels around the world and Michelin just announced some hotels on Vancouver Island have received this designation.
Essentially, the Michelin Key is to hotels what Michelin Stars are to restaurants.
In announcing the new rating system, the Michelin Guide gave out Keys to four renowned Vancouver Island hotels.
In Victoria, both the Fairmont Empress Hotel and the Magnolia Hotel & Spa were given one Michelin Key.
In Tofino, the Wickaninnish Inn was given two Michelin Keys, and the luxurious Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge received three Michelin Keys.
Only two hotels in all of Canada received three Keys.
At the Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, guests can choose between three-day, four-day or seven-day stays, but it is costly.
Rates begin at $2,950 per night.
Having these four hotels recognized by the Michelin Guide is a big deal because currently the Guide has not awarded any Michelin Stars to any Vancouver Island restaurant.
Vancouver has nine Michelin recognized restaurants.
People around the world use the Michelin Guide to plan their lavish vacations in order to know they are staying in the best accommodations and eating the best food a city has to offer.
