Oh, the mid-week slump has begun and it’s time to find something fun, different and/or creative to knock us out of that funk—and we’ve got some solutions!

Catch acclaimed singer, composer and author Tanya Tagaq, lose yourself in a jazz performance from Emily Braden, attend a book launch and more.

Here’s 5 things to do in and around Victoria on Wednesday, September 18th:

Theatre Production at UVic

Visit the University of Victoria’s Phoenix Theatre and witness their production of Eyes of the Beast: Climate Disaster Survivor Stories.

This relevant and powerful story is adapted from the award-wining journalism of the Climate Disaster Project, and follows ordinary people surviving extraordinary times.

Their first show kicked off on Monday, September 16th and will play until Saturday, September 21st.

Tanya Tagaq at The Farquhar

The Farquhar at the University of Victoria is hosting a special presentation from Tanya Tagaq, with The Victoria Symphony and Emily Carr String Quartet.

Tagaq is an improvisational singer, avant-garde composer and bestselling author. Tagaq has received a Polaris Music Prize, a JUNO Award as well as multiple honorary doctorates.

Emily Braden Jazz Performance

Have a fabulous dinner at L’Apéro while you enjoy a fantastic jazz show from Emily Braden!

She’s a beloved Harlem-based vocalist, songwriter and lyricist who blends jazz, soul and pop, bringing celebrated music to audiences all over the world.

Tickets are $35 for the main floor and $30 for the mezzanine.

Book Launch Event at Munro’s Books

Join the crew at Munro’s Books for a dual-book launch event!

This launch is celebrating two local authors, Jean Paetkau and Sara Desai.

The Sinking of Souls is the second book in the bestselling Breakwater Mystery series by  Paetkau, and explores the real sinking of the S.S. Clallam in 1904.

And from Desai, we’re presented with her romantic comedy, ‘Til Heist do us Part, and are thrust into the excitement of diamond necklaces, billionaires, Mafia bosses, and student loans.
