The City of Victoria has launched a public engagement campaign to determine how the residents of the city want their government to handle taking on climate change.
Victoria is known as a climate leader within Canada and in part due to its mild climate, was recently deemed to be Canada’s most bikeable city, based on data from Statistics Canada.
The ‘All Ages and Abilities’ cycling network and the number of electric vehicle chargers are also big aspects of Victoria’s efforts to encourage resilience to climate change.
Now, they want to know how Victoria residents want to continue down the path of climate resilience.
“While climate change is a global problem, we all have a role in protecting the people and places we love by reducing our carbon pollution and getting ready for climate-caused impacts,” said Mayor Marianne Alto.
“Climate change affects everyone in Victoria, the way we live together, our environment and economy, and I encourage the community to share their experiences and feedback with us.”

Those who wish to take part in the ‘Victoria Climate Action’ engagement can take a survey, share ideas in an online discussion forum, register for an online information session or attend a pop-up or open house.
Once the City has collected data from the engagement campaign, they will use that feedback in order to update their municipal climate plans and policies.
With the information provided, City staff intend to present the two plans to council next year, along with an engagement summary of all public feedback.
This public engagement campaign will run until October 11th.
