The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is seeking public assistance to advance their investigation into a suspected homicide that occurred in Lake Cowichan earlier this month.
On September 3rd, around 11 p.m., Lake Cowichan RCMP responded to a residence in the 7900 block of Cowichan Lake Road.
Officers were conducting a search for Tavis Cragg, who had been reported missing from Nanaimo earlier that day. Upon arrival, they discovered Cragg’s body at the property, and it is believed he was the victim of a homicide.

A suspect has been identified and interviewed, but no charges have been laid at this time. Investigators believe the incident is isolated, with no ongoing risk to public safety.
Now, investigators are specifically asking anyone with dashcam video who travelled between Nitinaht, through Youbou, and the entrance of Lake Cowichan – at the intersection of North Shore Road and Youbou Road – between midnight and noon on September 3rd to come forward.
The investigation remains active, and police said no further details are available at this time.
Anyone with footage during that time is encouraged to submit it to the VIIMCU Information Line at (250) 380-6211.
