Here’s what caused a large police presence in Central Saanich Wednesday morning

A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a Central Saanich supportive-housing facility following reports he entered the building with a firearm.

Central Saanich Police responded to the incident just after 9 a.m. at the Aurora supportive-housing facility, located at 7606 East Saanich Road.

The building was evacuated as a safety precaution, and East Saanich Road was closed in both directions while officers addressed the situation.

The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team was called in to assist, including crisis negotiators who engaged with the suspect.

Police said the situation was resolved without further escalation, and the man was taken into custody around 12:06 p.m. A firearm was seized at the scene.

During the course of the incident, another resident of the building required medical assistance. Police escorted paramedics to the individual to provide necessary care.

No injuries were reported during the arrest, and the investigation remains ongoing.
