Residents on the Saanich Peninsula may have been shaken awake this morning.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Saanichton area at 4:05 a.m. on Thursday, September 26th. Meanwhile, Earthquakes Canada measured the event at a magnitude of 3.8, with a depth of nearly 55 kilometres.
The quake was recorded at a depth of 52 km and occurred 12 km ESE of Saanichton—about 18 kilometres from Victoria.
Residents throughout Greater Victoria are taking to social media reporting they were awoken by the quake.
