Majority of BC believes Justin Trudeau is the worst Canadian Prime Minister

A survey was recently conducted to determine which Canadian Prime Minister was the best and who was the worst. 

This survey asked people across BC and Canada to pick who was their favourite and least favourite Prime Minister, based on a selection of more recent leaders. 

According to the respondents answers, the following shows who was the best in order of popularity amongst British Columbians:

  • Pierre Trudeau: Liberal – 1968-79, 1980-84
    • 19%
  • Stephen Harper: Conservative – 2006-15
    • 18%
  • Brian Mulrony: Conservative – 1984-93
    • 10%
  • Jean Chrétien: Liberal – 1993-2003
    • 7%
  • Justin Trudeau: Liberal – 2015-present
    • 7%
  • Kim Campbell: Conservative – 1993
    • 4%
  • Paul Martin: Liberal – 2003-06
    • 4%
  • Joe Clark: Conservative – 1979-80
    • 3%
  • John Turner: Liberal – 1984
    • 0%

Notably, when answering who they thought was the best Canadian Prime Minister, 28% of BC respondents said they were unsure. 

Now who British Columbian respondents think was the worst of these former Prime Ministers:

  • Justin Trudeau: Liberal – 2015-present
    • 39%
  • Stephen Harper: Conservative – 2006-15
    • 7%
  • Pierre Trudeau: Liberal – 1968-79, 1980-84
    • 6%
  • Joe Clark: Conservative – 1979-80
    • 6%
  • Kim Campbell: Conservative – 1993
    • 6%
  • Jean Chrétien: Liberal – 1993-2003
    • 5%
  • Brian Mulrony: Conservative – 1984-93
    • 4%
  • John Turner: Liberal – 1984
    • 2%
  • Paul Martin: Liberal – 2003-06
    • 1%

To this question, 24% of BC respondents said they were unsure of who they thought was the worst. 

Results to the question “Who was the worst Prime Minister of these politicians?” were similar across the country, however Justin Trudeau’s approval rate wavered based on the region. 

According to the survey, the current Prime Minister is most hated in Alberta, with 55% of respondents saying he was the worst, and he is most loved in Quebec, where only 28% of respondents said he is the worst. 

Amongst Conservative voting respondents, 72% said he was their least favoured and within the Liberal voting respondent selection, 14% say he is the worst Prime Minister. 

The survey was conducted by BC-based Research Co., a data analyst and polling firm.
