BC’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has announced that the Trans-Canada Highway near the Malahat summit is to be repaved over the next month.
Paving is set to begin this weekend during the evening of Sunday, September 15th.
This repaving effort will be taking place along a 5.5 kilometre corridor between the Malahat summit viewpoint to Bamberton, as far north as Mill Bay Road, according to the Province.
During construction, narrow sections of the Trans-Canada Highway will be reduced to single-lane, alternating traffic.
Work will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. during the next month of road work.
The Province estimates that between the hours of work, the area could see anticipated delays lasting as long as 20 minutes.
“To minimize disruption, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra time when possible, or travel outside of the construction times,” said the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in a media release.
The work is taking place in order to provide Malahat commuters with a smoother and safer journey, according to the Province.
Work is expected to be finished by mid-October.
During this construction, motorists travelling this corridor can keep up to date on delays via DriveBC.
