Exciting news for Victoria locals and visitors alike!
The Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) has announced that the ferris wheel will return for the 2024 edition of Lights of Wonder.
This popular feature, which first appeared in Centennial Square in 2012 and became a local tradition until 2016, will make its grand comeback this year, adding a dose of thrill and nostalgia to the holiday event.
As part of Lights of Wonder, the Ferris wheel will be available for the last 12 days of the month-long celebration.
The DVBA team said they are ecstatic to bring this fan-favourite attraction back, enhancing the festive experience for all attendees. The ride will be free, with charitable donations welcomed and gratefully accepted on behalf of local nonprofits.
“The business community is excited to invite Victorians to shop, dine, and visit downtown this holiday season. Our team is thrilled to bring back an old favourite, the Ferris wheel, as part of Lights of Wonder this year! Bring the whole family downtown to enjoy the season while supporting local,” said DVBA CEO, Jeff Bray.
Lights of Wonder, the largest free outdoor light display on Vancouver Island, has become a beloved tradition, lighting up downtown Victoria each December.
The event attracts thousands of attendees annually with its dazzling light displays, festive atmosphere, live entertainment, and food vendors.
The ferris wheel provides a bird’s-eye view of Victoria’s beautifully lit cityscape. It will be open for rides nightly from December 20th to 31st, beginning at 4 p.m., weather permitting.
This year’s Lights of Wonder will officially kick off on November 30th, immediately following the Santa Parade.
In addition to these attractions, the DVBA is also seeking cultural groups and musical entertainers to perform onstage throughout December. Interested performers can apply online by visiting dvba.ca/perform.
