Pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by vehicle on residential road in Nanaimo

A woman is being treated for serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a residential area of Nanaimo. 

The incident occurred while the woman was reportedly walking through a designated crosswalk on Hammond Bay Road near Morningside Drive at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday September 23rd. 

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the driver involved was a woman who was driving a grey Honda Pilot.

Police say she remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. 

Witnesses told police that the victim was walking through the crosswalk and the approaching vehicle did not stop and struck her. 

“Several people came to the assistance of the victim including an off-duty physician,” said Nanaimo RCMP in a statement. 

“Drugs, alcohol and speed are not considered to be contributing factors.”

This investigation is ongoing.

Police are now asking any witnesses who may not have spoken with police yet, or have dashcam video of the incident, to contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
