Nanaimo RCMP say their Special Investigation Targeted Enforcement (SITE) team has made a bust in the downtown area in which officers seized a weapon, cash and drugs.
According to police, on September 11th, officers responded to a call from someone who thought they witnessed a drug deal taking place on Cavan Street.
The SITE team attended and arrested two adults for alleged possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited firearm.
During the arrest, police say they were able to seize:
- One loaded pistol
- 245 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 230 grams of suspected cocaine
- 45 grams of suspected fentanyl
- 430 prescription opioid tablets
- $950 in Canadian currency
The suspects who were arrested, 35-year-old Sara Koshman and 30-year-old Gerid Gregory-Allen, have since been charged for their alleged crimes.
Following this initial arrest, police continued investigating which resulted in a search warrant being executed at a local motel room.
Nanaimo RCMP say the search resulted in more drugs, weapons and cash being seized.
The second bust led to the following being seized:
- 1.7 litres of suspected gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB)
- 640 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 280 grams of suspected cocaine
- 190 grams of suspected fentanyl
- Three firearms, two of which were prohibited along with ammunition
- Other non-descript weapons
- $ 15,000 in Canadian currency
Allen and Koshman are currently remanded and await their next court appearance in Nanaimo Provincial Court, which is set for September 25th.
“This was a significant seizure and it removed large quantities of illicit and harmful drugs, as well as dangerous weapons from the streets of Nanaimo,” said Inspector Andrew Burton of the Nanaimo RCMP.
The investigation remains ongoing.
