Saanich Police impound delivery van after driver caught driving while prohibited

Share

September 5th, turned out to be a rough day for one local delivery driver who might have set a new record for “least successful workday ever.”

The 40-year-old Victoria man, whose driving privileges were suspended for 90 days after a recent impaired driving incident, was arrested just as he was gearing up to hit the road for work.

Except, of course, he wasn’t supposed to be driving at all.

After his arrest, the driver was released with a future court date, and this marks the second time he’s had a vehicle impounded.

The delivery company was at least able to rescue their customers’ packages before the van was hauled away for its seven-day impoundment.

“This arrest sends a strong message to those on our roads,” said Staff Sgt. Doug Cripps, head of the Traffic Safety Unit at Saanich Police.

“Driving is a privilege. If you are caught driving impaired, you will lose that privilege, and you must earn it back. There are no shortcuts.”

So, for now, one thing’s certain: your packages are safer on the delivery truck than the driver is behind the wheel.
