For the first time in its near-century history, Silver Rill Corn, a beloved family farm on the Saanich Peninsula, is welcoming visitors to wander through its brand-new corn maze!
Known for their delicious corn, the Fox family has taken a big step into the world of agritourism, offering a fun, family-friendly maze experience for the young and young-at-heart.
The maze covers two acres and is more about the experience than the challenge.
Designed with younger kids in mind, the paths are easy to navigate, and even seniors and parents are loving it.
“We kept it simple and affordable for our first year,” Clayton Fox, the farm’s owner, tells Victoria Buzz.
“People shouldn’t expect much of a challenge, but it’s a great experience for families, especially for little ones.”
Clayton took over the family farm this year after a major transition left him as the sole owner, along with his family.
The maze was a dream his late father, Ken Fox, had always had, and Clayton is proud to bring it to life in his honour.
“My father always wanted to branch out into agritourism, so we’re doing this to honour him,” he says. “Plus, it’s a special way to share the farm life with my kids—Paxton (8), Colton (4), and Everly (3)—who helped design the maze themselves!”
The maze may not be a brain-buster, but it’s packed with photo opportunities and even some tractors to admire.
While they haven’t added any Halloween frights just yet, Clayton hinted that they might sprinkle in some spooky fun later—if the weather holds up. “We’re holding off for now, as there’s always the risk of the maze being damaged before Halloween,” he explains.
For this first year, the only additional treat available is Silver Rill’s own freshly popped popcorn, perfect for munching on as you explore.
“We’re keeping things simple for now, but who knows what the future holds,” says Clayton. “Maybe we’ll add a tougher section to the maze next year, or more activities—but for now, it’s just right for young kids and most adults.”
The corn maze is located at 7117 Central Saanich Road in Saanichton and is open from Thursday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
