A celebratory rally will be held in honour of gender inclusivity in schools this week.
In response to the 1 Million March for Children, which has been labeled ‘transphobic’ after their protests against the inclusion of gender inclusivity in schools, a counter rally will be held in celebration of transgender and gender-diverse people.
The rally, 1 Million Voices for Inclusion (1MVFI) and Finn’s Future, will take place at the Legislative Assembly of BC on Friday, September 20th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In 2023, after 1 Million March for Children sparked outrage and controversy amongst the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, 1MVFI rose in defence of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) charter.
This charter ensures inclusivity and a safe environment for transgender and gender-diverse individuals in schools across the province.
To mark the anniversary, the Legislature grounds will host a day-long celebratory event ‘over bigotry and hatred.’
It will include featured speakers, a choir and other live music, poetry readings, a youth-led drag show, arts and crafts, info booths and much more.
This family-friendly event will be held in collaboration with Greater Victoria Teachers’ Association, the Quadra Village Community Centre, the Foundry, Island Sexual Health, and the Victoria Youth Empowerment Society.
“Everyone who believes in inclusivity is welcome,” a media release sent to Victoria Buzz reads.
