RCMP investigating random attack in Nanaimo which left one victim in hospital

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an assault which took place this week, leaving one man in hospital. 

Police say the incident took place around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday October 8th in the 100-block of Nicol Street. 

Following the assault, police, fire services and paramedics all responded.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the victim was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital for medical treatment. 

The victim was reportedly sitting on a sidewalk curb when he was approached by an unknown man described as wearing dark clothing.  

The victim says an altercation ensued, then the suspect fled on foot. 

Police say the suspect was last seen running towards the downtown area of Nanaimo.  

Officers unsuccessfully searched for the suspect and are now turning to the public for information that may help their investigation.

Anyone who may have been an eye witness and has not spoken with police are being asked to come forward. 

Additionally, police are asking any motorist who has dash cam video in the 100-block of Nicol Street from 10:15 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. on October 8th to contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
