Great news for the pickleball players of Victoria!
West Shore Parks & Recreation (WSPR) has announced that they’re moving forward with six new pickleball courts, and are taking the first steps toward construction.
The interest in the sport has been heard, and WSPR said they plan to continue enhancing recreational opportunities for the community.
According to a media release, the construction of these courts won’t require any additional tax requisitions or impact the 2024 budget.
Funds will come from the general capital, which ensures the project can move forward without causing financial strain.
“I’m really excited about these new pickleball courts opening and what it represents for communities in Westshore,” said West Shore Parks & Recreation Society Chairperson, Damian Kowalewich.
“This prioritizes the physical health and wellness of our residents and shows that we are prepared to meet the demand of this growing sport. Amenities like this contribute to a high quality of life for residents of all ages and allow individuals to stay active playing this popular sport.”
The new courts will replace what’s currently beach volleyball courts, located next to the tennis courts on the WSPR property.
The distance from residential areas will minimize noise concerns and allow for ample parking and nearby washrooms.
WSPR has entered the phase where qualified contractors with experience in outdoor sports facility construction are encouraged to bid on the project.
