Not only are the streets adorned in beautiful Christmas lights and other festive displays. Sidney has some pretty fun things to do with the family, including the Sidney Sparkles Christmas Parade!
Here are a few things happening:
Sidney Merchant Open House
At various Locations, Downtown Sidney
Friday, December 2th, 5pm to 9pm
On December 2nd, the Sidney Merchants Open House launches the holiday season with multiple activities and treats designed to tickle the fancy of even the most Grinch-like family member. There will be FREE horse-drawn carriage rides, the Linden Singers performing traditional story-book Christmas carols, beautiful shop windows, and just about the best customer service you could imagine. Without doubt, it will be a fun and festive evening to remember!
Nativity Exhibit
Sat, Nov 26, 2016 – Mon, Dec 5, 2016 – 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – 2210 Eastleigh Way
An annual Christmas Nativity Exhibit featuring over 800 creche displays! Some creche displays date back to the 1900’s making this event a historical Christmas display. Admission is FREE! There are crafts and a scavenger hunt for children, as well as refreshments. Groups are welcome.
Sidney Sparkles Christmas Parade
Sunday, December 4 @ 5:00 PM
The annual Sidney Sparkles Christmas Parade starts at 5 p.m. and runs through the centre of town along Beacon Avenue. Immediately following the parade, head to the waterfront to view the parade of lighted boats that light up the coastline from Port Sidney to Tulista Park!
The lighted Sail Past will follow the parade and the boats will be tied up at Port Sidney Main dock and will be lit at dusk on Sunday, December 4.
Gingerbread House Scavenger Hunt
At various Locations, Downtown Sidney
December 2nd to December 21st
Have fun finding the 40 different gingerbread houses located in Sidney shops and businesses! Identify 12 of these lovely creations, and you’ll be eligible to enter a free draw to win 1 of 3 great prizes. Winners will be contacted on December 24 by phone and e-mail!
Carriage Rides
Pick-up outside the Sidney Waterfront Hotel on 1st Street
December 3 to 18
Victoria Carriage Tours will offer festive rides through downtown Sidney on Saturday’s and Sundays, December 3-18, 11am-3pm. Tours are only $30 per carriage and seat up to 6 people. Reservations recommended: 250-883-3651
Carolers
At various Locations, Downtown Sidney
Saturday’s and Sunday’s from December 5th to 20th, 1pm to 4pm.
Traditional carolers stroll the streets of Sidney capturing the warmth and tradition of Christmas and sharing their heart-warming renditions of season favourites.
Winspear Festival of Trees
At Mary Winspear Centre
December 4 to January 1 | 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
View a beautiful collection of decorated trees at the Mary Winspear Centre and vote for your favourite! Drop off a new un-wrapped toy for Toys for Tots too!
Christmas LEGO Display
At Mary Winspear Centre
December 2 to January 3 | 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
The Victoria LEGO Users Group have designed a creative and whimsicle LEGO display for children of all ages to enjoy! Visit the display the entire month of December at the Mary Winspear Centre.
Teddy Bear Exhibit
At Sidney Museum
Wed, Nov 16, 2016 – Sat, Dec 31, 2016 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Once again, hundreds of Teddy Bears will be invading Sidney Museum or the Christmas season. They will be getting up to their usual antics, but this year they will be travelling! Up, Up and Away in a hot air balloon, or riding in an airplane or even taking the train. A special feature this year is the whimsical art of Erin Vanessa that will compliment the displays with painted scenes of teddy bears on their travels. This is an annual ‘must’ for all the family.
