Saanich police arrest Duncan man twice after two offences hours apart

Saanich police arrested a 21-year-old man from Duncan after he was spotted by officers spray painting the side of Saanich Municipal Hall only an hour after he was released from jail for public intoxication.

Just after 10 am on Friday, police were contacted by security at Uptown Shopping Centre after they located a man who was reportedly too intoxicated to take care of himself.

It turns he was breaking probation by drinking, so police arrested him and held him in custody until he sobered up.

About an hour after he was released, police spotted the man next door spray painting the side of Saanich Municipal Hall.

Once again, he was arrested, and officers found drugs on him which again broke probation orders.

Police say they will now hold him in custody until an appearance before a judge.

“We made this decision in order to protect the public from further offences. We will continue to target prolific offenders and work with the courts to prevent future offences,” said acting st/sg Phil Davies.
