Here’s why people will be rappelling off the CIBC building next week

Share

It’s a bird, it’s a plane – nope, it’s a bunch of people descending down the side of the 160 foot Bank of Commerce (or CIBC) building in downtown Victoria!

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is bringing its national ‘Rope for Hope’ campaign to Victoria for the first time ever, allowing individuals and groups to experience rappelling down a tall building once they raise $1,500 each for the foundation.

Their goal for Victoria is to raise $50,000 and this event is so popular that they currently already have about $49,000, over a week away from the rappel date.

Come join the party

This event is perfect for daredevils and the faint of heart alike because even if scaling tall buildings isn’t your cup of tea, you can still take part in the festivities!

With a live DJ, a photo booth, and superheroes popping by, the area in front of the CIBC building will be the most happening place in town on Thursday, May 24th.

Among the participants will be Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce CEO Catherine Holt, and several other local VIPs. And we here at Victoria Buzz will also be live on location, rappelling away next to all the heroes in our community!

Here’s how you can get involved

Rope for Hope takes place in cities across Canada from Vancouver to Halifax, and so far, they’ve been able to raise almost $540,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Anyone is welcome to come on out and watch the rappelling or take in the street party. If you want to help these brave rapellers meet and exceed their fundraising goals, click here to donate to one of the participants!

So good luck to everyone taking part, and try not to look down!
