The weekend before Halloween is bound to be a crazy night for police and other first responders.
On Friday, Victoria Police live-tweeted their experiences to show us just how many hectic and interesting calls they deal with on a busy night.
They started the evening by telling us how many calls VicPD responded to over the weekend before Halloween last year (400), and by the time the live-tweeting began, they had already received 109 calls. *phew*
Last year, we responded to over 400 calls over the weekend before Halloween. This year, we're already at 109 calls today. #VicPDLive

Although a full tally of all calls and types of situations has not been released yet, it may be safe to say that the most common crime was drunk/impaired driving. By 2 a.m., officers had responded to about a dozen impaired driving calls.
One person drove up to a road block and had a case of cannabis joints next to them. They did, however, pass the sobriety test.
A driver had these next to them when they pulled up at a road block. Passed the standard field sobriety test, but this could have been very expensive. #waittillyougethome #yyjtraffic #VicPDLive pic.twitter.com/aU7sf2l5l6

Some of the crazier incidents happened in stores and restaurants. One customer who “didn’t like being looked at” by staff decided to show their frustration by throwing their drink on the floor.
Another person, who was convinced that someone was trying to shoot him, made his case heard by repeatedly banging on the windows of a downtown Victoria restaurant.
And one person decided to simply refuse to leave an establishment, resulting in police being called.

While Halloween is the time for spooky sights and sounds, lighting fireworks without permits is prohibited. Yet VicPD found a group of people doing just that in a downtown parkade.
In another case, a woman was spotted lying in the middle of a crosswalk on a busy street.
Officers even went to check on a man who wasn’t wearing a shirt last night – and they did it to make sure he wasn’t too cold.
It's about that time. Officers are checking on a male not wearing a shirt in the middle of a major downtown street. It's cold out. #VicPDLive pic.twitter.com/ayHdUvQTWO

On a more serious note, police also responded to a few assault cases.
One person was injured in an assault with a weapon that occurred in the 800-block of Douglas Street. They were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
They also responded to a fight involving four men that was taking place in Esquimalt. A crowd of onlookers had gathered by the time officers arrived at the scene.
Another disturbed person was reportedly climbing on the outside of a balcony in a downtown building. He was taken into custody without incident.
And it wasn’t just human officers doing all the dirty work! VicPD’s K9 Alpha was able to stop a man wanted on 3 arrest warrants, just by being there.
Kudos to @VicPDK9 Alpha whose sheer presence stopped a wanted man after he tried to run. Man had 3 warrants, was breaching conditions & had an ounce of drugs and over $1000 cash when arrested. Good boy!

And all in a night’s work!
