On Thursday, December 20th, Vancouver Island and BC’s south coast was hit with one of the worst wind storms it has seen in recent years.
Trees were blown over, boats drifted from their docks, and over 100,000 Vancouver Island residents were left without power.
Despite BC Hydro crews working around the clock to get things back up and running, over 80,000 customers on the island are still experiencing outages because of the storm.
#VancouverIsland continues to present challenges as the most damage across the province was here, but work continues through the night. Additional crews will be on early ferries over to the island to help with damage repair and restoration efforts. #BCStorm

BC Ferries cancelled most of their sailings for the day, and even the iconic Butchart Gardens had to close its doors for the night.
In the midst of the chaos and confusion, islanders have managed to capture some truly telling images of the havoc wreaked by the wind storm.
