Storm watching season isn’t over yet!

Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for east, west, and north Vancouver Island for Friday afternoon.

A strong Pacific frontal system is approaching BC’s coast this afternoon, and is expected to hit west Vancouver Island first.

The area is in for southeast wind gusts between 80 and 100 km/h, and will shift to southwest winds between 60 to 80 km/h by late Friday evening.

By early Friday evening, the front will reach the eastern side of the island, and residents in and between Courtenay and Campbell River can expect southeast winds of 70 gusting to 90 km/h. The storm is expected to ease up overnight.

Meanwhile, the exposed coastal sections of northern Vancouver Island are predicted to receive strong southeast winds of 90 gusting to 110 km/h by early Friday evening.

These strong winds will later develop over Haida Gwaii, and then ease up by early Saturday morning.

As always, Environment Canada warns people to be wary of loose objects tossed around in the wind and damage to buildings which may be caused as a result of these storms.
