Wondering what to do for a fun weekend? Want to meet new friends and learn a new skill?

You’re invited to come discover your new passion at the Global Game Jam event in Victoria this weekend.

The Global Game Jam is the world’s largest game creation event – where people from all over the world can learn how to make cool digital and non-digital games from scratch!

This is the perfect opportunity for you to come and learn new skills or to network with professionals in the local tech industry. Everyone is welcome to attend, however guests under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

How it works

For the main event, participants will gather on Friday evening to watch a short video presentation made by professional developers giving advice about how to create games, and then a secret theme will be announced.

Individuals will then form teams, giving you a great chance to work with new people, and these teams will have to make a game based on the secret theme to be completed by Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.

Local game designers, musicians, artists, programmers, and developers will be on hand to help you build your games.

Some of the professionals at the event include Chris Tihor, Victoria-based game designer and programmer and founder of Ironic Iconic Studios, and Dylan Gedig, Victoria-based game designer and a Computer Science graduate from University of Victoria.
