Vancouver Island has just been hit with a vast amount of snow all at once, and let’s just say, we’re not quite used to it.
Since the precipitation started around mid-morning on a weekday, most students are stuck in classes (or at least, those not playing hooky).
However the turn of weather has resulted in parents and students wondering whether or not their institution will remain open for the rest of the day.
Here’s the 411:
- Camosun College
Both Lansdowne and Interurban campuses of Camosun College were shut down at 1:30 p.m. The libraries at each campus stayed open until 2:30, after which all buildings were locked and secured.
Camosun College will be closing at 1:30 pm due to the inclement weather. The Libraries at both campuses will remain open until 2:30pm. All buildings will be locked and secured by 2.30 pm. We are undertaking this to ensure student and staff safety.

- University of Victoria
While the University of Victoria campus remains open this afternoon, the website does have a snowfall advisory for staff and students letting them know that sidewalks and parking lots may be icy.
The warning was issued at 12:35 p.m., and updates will be provided by the university as they become available.
- Royal Roads University
The Royal Roads campus remains open for the most part despite heavy snowfall. Staff and students are asked to avoid entering or exiting campus through University Drive and Serpentine Road. Traffic is diverted to College Road through Belmont Park instead.
The campus library closed at around 12 p.m., and the Rec Centre was shut down at 1 p.m. Habitat Café remains open till 7 p.m.
Campus remains open as we continue to monitor accumulating snow. Please use extreme caution when travelling to or from campus. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/GOj6JpHprN
