Impaired driving charge laid following roll-over crash on Admirals Road Tuesday

A single-vehicle rollover on Admirals Road Tuesday night resulted in the driver being charged with impaired driving and failing a breathalyzer test, says West Shore RCMP.

Officers received reports of the roll-over crash just after 10:00 p.m. in the 1100 block of Admirals Road in View Royal. Photos from the scene show the vehicle, a black Ford Expedition, over a barrier and on its side near a bus stop.

Witnesses at the time told Victoria Buzz that two people, a man and a woman, were extracted from the vehicle and taken to hospital.

West Shore RCMP say that both occupants were uninjured, and that the male driver had a blood alcohol content over the legal limit.

Investigators also say that tire marks on the road suggest excessive speeds and that the roll-over was caused by either hitting the curb or something just after the curb.

“Police determined the driver was intoxicated at the time of driving and was likely driving the vehicle too fast,” sat Cst. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP.

“[He] provided a breath sample into a roadside device and was determined to be over the legal limit.”

The driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days, and the vehicle has been impounded for one month.
