Drivers of electric vehicles (EVs) on Vancouver Island will soon be able to participate in Victoria’s first ever city-wide scavenger hunt, which will highlight local businesses and will include massive prizes to be won!
Over 100 local businesses are participating in the “Plug-in Challenge”, which is being hosted by the non-profit group Victoria Electric Vehicle Club (VEVC).

The scavenger hunt will have EV drivers travelling to different destinations and businesses in Victoria, where they will have to unravel clues to find out where to go next.
Besides getting to visit some of the city’s most popular stores, participants will have a chance to win prizes provided by local business owners, including gift certificates to restaurants, hotels, and electric landscaping equipment.
The fastest and smartest scavenger hunter will also receive a heavy duty home charger for their electric vehicle that is valued at over $1,000.
The club hopes that the scavenger hunt will encourage EV drivers to connect with each other and the community, and funds raised by the rally will go into the VEVC’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of clean, electric vehicles in the community,
With electric vehicles becoming more accessible and gas prices rising to unprecedented levels, the VEVC says that more and more people are contacting them for tips on how to switch to zero emission transportation.
“We’ve noticed a change in the level of questions over the last year, moving away from vague questions about EVs in general to practical questions about specific models and charging at home and on road trips,” said VEVC President James Locke in a statement.
“There are a number of things EVs can do that gas cars simply can’t — the Plug-In Challenge is just the newest benefit”, added VEVC Board member and lead rally organizer Julian Sale.
Electric Vehicle drivers who want to participate in the Plug-In challenge can sign up at the VEVC website here, and can check out their Facebook page for details on the scavenger hunt.
The first 150 people to sign up will also receive a free commemorative T-Shirt.
