One Victoria youth was charged a hefty fine after they were caught carrying a number of illegal items in Centennial Square on Wednesday.
VicPD told Victoria Buzz that officers were in the area due to “recent incidents of violence and open drug and alcohol use”, particularly by youth – when they spotted the particular youth carrying three prohibited items.
Officers then approached the teen and seized a concealed knife, bear spray, and a cannabis grinder.
Police say that the bear spray is considered a “prohibited weapon”, and that carrying the knife in public is unlawful.
After seizing the items, officers issued the youth $460 in fines related to cannabis. They were charged with minor in possession of cannabis ($230) and minor in possession of cannabis accessory ($230).
Seized these off a youth in Centennial Sq. I don't think there're many bears in the Square. Issued $460 in fines under the CCLA. #yyj #safety #StayInSchoolKids pic.twitter.com/VpleMwWidH
