If you haven’t made your Father’s Day plans yet, don’t fret! Car Free YYJ is back for its 5th year in a row, and this promises to be its biggest celebration yet.
People of all ages are invited to attend Car Free YYJ (not just dads!) which stretches across 9 blocks of Douglas Street, from Caledonia to Courtney, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. this Sunday, June 16th.
The event has gained popularity since its inception, and last year in 2018 it saw over 40,000 people on foot attend the festivities!
It’s time time to ditch the car, take a stroll or hop on a bus and take part in this much-anticipated event – and here are 7 reasons why!
1. It’s the perfect way to celebrate dad
What better way to pay homage to that special guy in your life, than to spend the day strolling the downtown streets and taking in all that Car Free YYJ has to offer? It’s the perfect family-friendly weekend activity!
2. There’s a little something for everyone
With over 400 local artists and makers as well as activations created by local businesses and organizations, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy.
3. Did someone say entertainment?
Sunday’s all-day-long celebration includes three stages with live entertainment, a 3,000 square foot silent disco alongside the abundance of vendors and makers!
4. Food and drink galore!
On top of the multiple food and drink vendors, food trucks and more, there’s also an all-ages licensed food and beverage area spanning multiple blocks as well as a 19+ Beer Garden – yum!
5. You’re doing your part helping the environment
It may only be one day, but every little bit counts! Not only are you cutting down on vehicle-use during Car Free YYJ, you’re promoting a healthy lifestyle in walking and/or biking for day.

With a spotlight on all things Victorian, Car Free YYJ highly promotes local businesses within the community – so come on down and support the vendors and makers alike!

Car Free YYJ will play host to Victoria’s largest outdoor silent disco! Don a pair of complimentary headphones and bust your moves this Sunday.
