Elementary school without a playground needs your help with votes

Share

Without much notice, Torquay Elementary School lost their wooden playground in December. The play structure was removed as it was deemed unsafe and the school needs to raise funds to replace it.

What is left is a large space with an old wood chip base and a few old tires chained together. This current site is a “sad space“ with nothing for kids to do. And in the winter months the upper play fields are closed due to water saturation.

We have been trying hard to raise the funds needed for a new playground. The Torquay PAC has had Spring Fairs, cupcake sales, garage sales, money drives, etc. Over the past 3 years our small multicultural school and surrounding community has been able to raise $20k of the $100k needed for the new playground,” reads the schools online submission.

A brand new playground costs around $70,000 and then there’s also an installation cost.  What most people don’t realize is that schools need to fund raise for their own playgrounds.

BCAA has a competition with a grand prize of up to $100,000 specifically for a playground. Torquay Elementary submitted an application with a short 2 minute video and are now one of five finalists.

They are the only school selected from Vancouver Island and with the power of the buzz and the best fans on the island, we bet we can help them win!

The winner will be determined by number of online votes.  We are hoping to rally the Vancouver Island community to help this worthy cause.

The contest close June 29th and you can vote dailyClick here to vote for Torquay Elementary and it could win a revitalization worth up to $100,000!
