Wilkinson Road is now closed for up to six months while crews begin a $6.5-million project to replace the 81-year-old Wilkinson Bridge – affecting up to 15,000 drivers daily.

Full road closure between Mann Avenue and Greenlea Drive will began Monday, June 6 and is expected to run until November 2016.

The new seismically upgraded bridge will include new bike lanes, sidewalks, trails and upgrades to existing utility infrastructure.

Motorists are encouraged to plan for an alternative route and avoid the area if possible.

The project also include the extension of the Colquitz River Trail.

Local access including emergency services, Saanich solid waste collection and the CRD recycling pick-up will be maintained from the Greenlea Drive and Mann Avenue ends respectively to the bridge site, according to the District of Saanich.
