A male pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a vehicle in Saanich Friday night.

According to Saanich Police, it happened around 10:52 PM outside of the Red Lion Hotel in the 3300 block of Douglas Street.

A BMW SUV travelling southbound on Douglas struck a 23 year-old male who had just been inside the Red Lion Hotel.

Collision analysts have confirmed the vehicle struck the male in the centre lane of the roadway, where there are no crosswalks. The driver immediately stopped, police said.

The pedestrian was rushed to Victoria General Hospital with life threatening head injuries.

Although the investigation is ongoing, police said alcohol and speed have been ruled out as contributing factors. The driver of the BMW who assisted police was visibly shaken by the incident.

Police are conducting follow ups with Red Lion staff to develop a history of the events leading up to the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Saanich Police at 250-475- 4321
