The Victoria Royals will face the Everett Silvertips for Game 3 tonight, after a dramatic win in game 2 last Saturday.
Tyler Soy’s 2 goals gave Victoria a 3-2 lead in the 2nd, and despite Everett tying it in the 3rd, Victoria would hang on to win thanks to Vladimir Bobble’s game winning marker with under 5 minutes in the game.
Sparks are set to fly at Save on Foods Memorial Center tonight, let’s get you caught up!
Mountainous Defence?
Everett strolled into the playoff round with a staggering 85.8% success rate on the penalty kill and combined it with a defense that allowed the fewest goals per game by a long shot in the entire WHL.
Victoria finally broke through that defensive wall on Saturday with a 4 goal performance. With 2 power play goals in both games, the Royals have started the playoffs converting on 58% of power plays – a number sure to go down – but one that’s perhaps the sign of a rejuvenated squad.
Dante Hannoun has 3 power play assists, but all 4 of Victoria’s goals on the man advantage have come from different scorers. If this team can continue to throw different looks at the league’s best penalty kill, it could be a difference maker in the series.
Down, but not out
