A 32-year-old woman was attacked and sexually assaulted while she was jogging on the Galloping Goose trail in Colwood Sunday night.

West Shore RCMP said they received reports of the incident around 10:40 p.m., which occurred near Pickford Rd.

RCMP and a dog handler surrounded the area quickly but were unable to find the suspect.

According to police, the woman was beaten and sexually assaulted by a person unknown to her. She was treated at the scene by BC Ambulance and transported to hospital to be treated for her injuries.

“Although police recognize these situations to be very traumatizing, her injuries are deemed to be non-life threatening,” said Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for West Shore RCMP.

The victim and her family have since been provided additional support from the Greater Victoria Victim Services.

A description of the suspect wasn’t available at the time of this release.

The investigation remains in its early stages, and police are still working on gathering evidence and determining the course of events, states Bérubé.

Police are reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings if using trails, especially if out of the public’s view, and to report any incidents right away.
