The mysterious incident that shut down a lane of the Johnson Street Bridge last night has now been revealed.
Police said a Victoria cyclist crashed at high speed at the intersection of Esquimalt and Harbour roads near the Johnson Street Bridge.
The female involved was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.
Public came to the aid of the injured cyclist
Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle incident involving a cyclist just before 6 p.m. last night.
Several people in the immediate vicinity rushed to help the injured woman and provided first aid until ambulances arrived. She was then brought to hospital by the BC Ambulance Service.
Members of the Victoria Police’s Collision Reconstruction Team were called out to document the scene and investigate. That investigation led to a several-hour closure of one lane on the Johnson Street Bridge.
While the file is still under investigation, so far there are no indications that another vehicle was involved in this incident.
