British Columbia has had its fair share of fire this summer, but last night, people across the province experienced a different kind of blaze. A fireball reportedly shot across the sky, ending in a loud sonic boom.

The RCMP received dozens of calls regarding the event. Witnesses described seeing a bright, flaming object turn the sky green, then fade into orange. The sighting was accompanied by a loud bang that sent shockwaves through buildings.

Fireball Seen From Saskatchewan to Montana

Reports regarding the fireball event have come in from as far away as Idaho, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Washington, and Montana.

The American Meteor Society estimates that the fireball entered the Earth’s atmosphere near Boswell, B.C. and terminated near Meadow Creek, B.C., covering roughly 100 kilometres.

Numerous videos have been posted on social media, including those below, which were caught on security camera footage.
