UPDATED | Gorge Road West closed to all traffic after serious crash

A pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after after being hit by an SUV that lost control on Gorge Road West Wednesday morning.

Saanich police said the pedestrian was struck around 11:30 a.m. near Gorge Road W and Donald Street.

The vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban was travelling east on Gorge Rd W when it appears to have gone off the road mounting the sidewalk.

The vehicle stuck a pedestrian on the sidewalk then continued into the park coming to rest in the bushes.

The pedestrian, a 31-year-old man, was transported to hospital with what police are describing as life threatening injuries.

The 25-year-old Saanich woman driving the SUV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The cause of the crash is still under investigation and many officers are still on the scene including officers from the Saanich Police Crash Analyst Team,” said A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie.

Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
