To paraphrase a tweet from Saanich PD earlier this week, it’s probably not a good idea to speed in a playground zone if you’re going to drive without a licence and/or insurance!
@yyjtraffic if U decide to drive w/o insurance or a DL please don't speed in playground zones thx#ExpensiveLesson pic.twitter.com/q5eomzf0in

A combination of all three fines was handed out to a driver on Monday at around 4:00 pm after they were found speeding down Emily Carr drive in a playground zone.
Despite the humorous caption, we’re betting the driver wasn’t too amused with the situation – that person not only has to pay the standard $253 for speeding in a playground zone but was also fined $276 for driving without a licence and received a hefty $598 charge for not having insurance.
That's just excessive. No need to pile on. No insurance is enough of a fine to change behavior. How about little discretion.

Seriously? Driving without insurance is beyond needing a behavioral change. I'm pleased Saanich PD threw the book at the person.

The incident and subsequent tweet drew some mixed responses, but we can all agree on one thing: it was a very expensive lesson indeed!
