2 sailing wait at B.C. Ferries after man goes overboard

Share

B.C. Ferries is reporting a two sailing wait Wednesday afternoon for those traveling from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay

The incident occurred on the Queen of Oak Bay vessel, and the individual was recovered and transported to hospital. The emergency caused two sailings to be cancelled.

Rescue boats were launched within 5 minutes of the passenger hitting the water. The individual was then brought to an ambulance waiting on shore and rushed to hospital.

After the event, time had to be taken to retrieve the rescue boat and debrief the crew, causing the cancellation of 2 sailings.

The 3:30 p.m. departure from Horseshoe bay is still scheduled to depart on time, and all other sailings are not affected.

“We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations,” said B.C. Ferries in their service notice.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us.”
