UPDATE: The highway has reopened but some crews are still cleaning up along the side of the road. One left northbound lane remains closed.
Motorist travelling on the Trans-Canada Highway should expect some delays as fire crews work to douse a vehicle fire.
According to DriveBC, Highway 1 is closed in both directions 1-kilometre north of the Malahat Summit.
Fire crews were dispatched to the fire just after 1:00 p.m.
Photos show a smart car fully engulfed. Injuries are unknown.
The highway is expected to be closed for at least half an hour.
