Nanaimo pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by vehicle

Nanaimo RCMP shut down the intersection of Mostar Road and Highway 19A for several hours after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and left severely injured.

At about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, a 26-year-old male was hit while trying to cross Highway 19A against the red light and with no pedestrian walk light.

BC Paramedics transported him to the hospital where he currently remains. The 51-year-old driver of the vehicle was uninjured, and alcohol/drug23 impairment and speed have been ruled out as contributing factors on behalf of the driver.

Her vehicle, a newer model Dodge Dart will undergo mechanical inspection.

RCMP officers and a traffic analyst are conducting an investigation into the incident.
