Where did the year go? Here are 8 things to do in and around Victoria to close out the last weekend of 2018.

World Junior Hockey in Victoria 

The 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship is being played in Vancouver and Victoria, from Dec 26 to Jan 5. Here are 3 games taking place this weekend.

    • Slovakia vs. Finland – Saturday, December 29th, Puck drops 3:30 p.m.
    • USA vs. Sweden – Saturday, December 29th, Puck drops 7:30 p.m.
    • Kazakhstan vs. Slovakia – Sunday, December 30th, Puck drops 7:30 p.m.

Atomic Vaudeville’s 80th Cabaret!

Atomic Vaudeville has been producing hilarious, raunchy, and poignant cabarets in Victoria for over a decade now, and this New Year’s Eve cabaret will be their 80th!

This year-end show will look back on 2019 through the lenses of song, dance, and of course, comedy. Ring in the new year with comedy that’s sure to tickle your funny bone and drama that’s sure to cut straight to your core.

When: December 29th, 30th, and 31st – show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street

Seasonal Traditions: Cultural Ways and Teachings

The winter season is time for a host of different traditions from many cultures. One that strikes particularly close to home is the practices of Indigenous cultures that are closely linked to the changing seasons.

The Royal BC is hosting stories and presentations on the wintertime customs of coastal First Nations.

When: December 29th, 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Where: The Royal BC Museum, third floor theatre area – 675 Belleville Street

Holiday Skate at Oak Bay Rec

Skaters can head to Oak Bay rec this weekend for a special holiday skate!

During the skate there will be holiday themed ice activities, like reindeer games and “go-go-stop Santa’s sled”. Time to get laced up!

When: December 30th, 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 o.m.
Where: Oak Bay Recreation Centre, 1975 Bee Street

10th Annual Gingerbread Showcase

Christmas may be over, but there’s still plenty of time to check out this fun charitable event! Gingerbread houses made by  both professional and amateur bakers will be on display.

Vote for your favourite sugary structure, and all donations will go towards Habitat Victoria’s Build Program for families in need. Last year, they had over 25,000 visitors and more than $51,000 was raised!

When: On now until Sunday, January 6th, 2019 – 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Where: The Parkside Hotel & Spa, 810 Humboldt Street

Festival of Trees at the Bay Centre

The 27th Annual Festival of Trees at the Bay Centre is here! See the Bay Centre transformed into a glowing forest of hand-decorated trees. Share in the spirit by voting for your favourite (like ours 😉), with all proceeds supporting the most urgent health care needs of kids in BC.

Trees will be on display at the Bay Centre starting November 15, 2018, through January 7th, 2019.

When: Daily until Jan 7 from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. (during shopping centre hours)
Where: The Bay Centre, 1150 Douglas Street

Laughs on Tap Sunday Open Mic

Need to lighten up after a busy holiday season?

Laughs on Tap is back for another Sunday open mic night! This week Zach Lewis will be hosting for the night, and the show will close with Ricky “Fricken” Rowley.

When: December 30th, 8 p.m.
Where: Laughs on Tap, 759 Yates Street
