Over 2,000 customers have lost power in Saanich

A morning motor vehicle accident has caused over 2,000 customers in Saanich to lose power today.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., a car allegedly hit a BC Hydro pole, knocking out power for 2,364 customers in the area . BC Hydro has confirmed that the power was lost due to a “motor vehicle accident.”

The affected area sits south of Cumberland Road, west of Fairlane Terrace, north of Jackson Street, and east of Saanich Road.

BC Hydro crews are currently on-site, but an ETA on when the electricity will be running again has not been determined yet.

Meanwhile, smaller outages are affecting residents across the island.

Power has been knocked out in one block of Tenth Street in Nanaimo and in one block of Argonaut Road in Campbell River. On Salt Spring island, 13 customers are currently without power.

BC Hydro has crews either on-site or enroute to all three locations.
