Saanich Police and fire officials are responding to a major house fire in the 200-block of Sims Ave.

The fire broke out at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon has since been extinguished.

“Crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the upper floor and roof area of the single family home,” Saanich Deputy Chief Dan Wood told Victoria Buzz.

An investigation of the residence found that no occupants were in the building at the time, and therefore no injuries have resulted from this incident.

Saanich fire and police forensics teams are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Authorities are expected to vacate the area by 4:30 p.m.
